Job Description
The selected candidate will be reporting to the Pharmacy Supervisor, MSF Dagahaley Project. This position is only open to Kenyan nationals.
Main purpose: Supporting the drug supply management in the designated facilities under the supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor of the project and according to MSF health policies and protocols, in order to contribute to the guarantee of the proper management and distribution of drugs and medical devices.
Missions:
In cooperation with the Pharmacy Supervisor, assisting in the supervision, management and control of the medical stock in the project in order to avoid ruptures, losses and gross overstock of drugs and other supplies and overseeing and monitoring its storage conditions
Assisting on a monthly basis with preparation and approval of order requests, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner to prevent unnecessary orders in between. Following up on drug ruptures.
Assisting in the supervision, management, follow up and control of medical/supply stock in the MSF office, expat houses, safe rooms and MSF cars. This includes physical count, ordering and monitoring of expired dates.
Assisting with the collection of consumption from facilities on at least a monthly basis and collecting data about the number of patients. Cooperating with and assisting the Pharmacy Supervisor in all related monthly reports, and under the Pharmacy Supervisor’s supervision, communicating and providing medical data to relevant MSF team members
Improving and following up the monitoring systems in place.
Supporting the MoH counterparts in their responsibilities regarding monitoring of drug consumption, stock management and preparing/receiving orders.
Assisting in preparing and organizing training sessions for MSF staff
Providing programs continuity during supervisor’s absence and handovers; sharing knowledge of program with incoming staff in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
Context-Specific:
Prepare and dispense medications in Hospital and Health posts pharmacies according to prescriptions, including restocking of the dispensing areas.
Perform stock taking medicines at the service delivery point pharmacy and order medications for restock.
Complete and update tally sheets and stock cards of all medications within the dispensing area
Educate every patient on the medications’ side effects, contraindications and drug-drug/food interactions.
Support rational prescription system by identifying and ensuring validation of prescriptions with concerned persons. Review the medication prescription for invalid indications and improper ordering.
Analysis of consumption comparing to FMC and AMCs then flagging issues to pharmacy management teams.
Participate in the MSF central pharmacy during monthly inventories as necessary.
Ensure that all suspected adverse drug reactions, poor quality medicines and medical errors are reported promptly.
Ensure the First Expired, First Out (FEFO) and First In, First Out (FIFO) principles are followed to the latter.
Train and mentor, the Auxiliary Nurses on key principles of drug dispensation using the 5R’s (Right medication, Right patient, Right dosage, Right route, Right frequency)
Compile and submit to the pharmacy supervisor weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports of the service delivery point pharmacy
Responsible for neat arrangement of the pharmacy stock at the service delivery point according to MSF protocols.
Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the supervisors e.g Acting supervisors position.
Requirements
Essential: Diploma of Pharmacy. A Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy is an asset.
Essential: At least 2-year certified work experience as a pharmacy technician
Desirable: Successful previous experience with MSF
Proficiency in English and Kiswahili. Somali language is desirable

Duration: 12 months fixed term contract (with 3 months’ probation period) renewable based on performance
