About ADRA SomaliaThe Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global humanitarian organization operating in over 130 countries. ADRA Somalia works with communities in poverty and distress to create just and positive change through sustainable development and emergency response initiatives.Position OverviewADRA Somalia is seeking an experienced, creative, and technical Public Relations and Communication Officer. The primary focus of this role is to strengthen the quality, consistency, and visibility of ADRA Somalia’s internal and external communications.The ideal candidate possesses advanced hands-on capability in desktop publishing, graphic design, field photography, video production, and visual storytelling, enabling them to transform technical programme information into compelling, high-quality communication products for diverse audiences.Key Responsibilities
Desktop Publishing & Publication Production: Independently design and format multi-page publications including annual reports, factsheets, brochures, newsletters, infographics, case studies, donor visibility materials, and high-impact PowerPoint presentations.
Communications Planning & Strategy: Implement communication plans and calendars aligned with project milestones, international observance days, donor visibility needs, and campaign priorities.
Content Writing & Storytelling: Draft, edit, and proofread clear, high-quality human-interest stories, beneficiary profiles, press releases, web content, and donor-facing reports in English.
Photography & Multimedia Production: Conduct field visits to capture professional photographs and short-form video content documenting project achievements, beneficiary impact, and community testimonials.
Digital & Social Media Management: Manage and curate engaging content across official digital platforms while maintaining visual consistency and tracking basic performance analytics.
Donor Compliance & Brand Management: Ensure all communications strictly adhere to ADRA visual identity guidelines as well as specific donor branding, visibility, and informed-consent protocols.
Asset Management & Capacity Strengthening: Maintain an organized digital media library (photos, videos, publications) and provide basic communication/storytelling guidance to field teams.
Skills and qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field. Professional certifications in graphic design or multimedia production are desirable.
Experience: Minimum 4 to 5 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or graphic design, preferably within a humanitarian NGO, UN agency, or donor-funded program environment. Direct experience working in Somalia is strongly preferred.
Languages: Excellent written and spoken fluency in both English and Somali.
Nationality: Must be a Somali citizen legally eligible to work in Somalia.
Technical Competencies Required
Graphic Design & DTP Software: Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign (multi-page layouts), Adobe Illustrator (vector graphics/infographics), Adobe Photoshop (photo editing), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Canva Pro.
Presentations & Multimedia: Advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint presentation design; practical video recording and editing capability (Adobe Premiere Pro/After Effects is an advantage).
Photography: Strong field photography skills with proper composition, lighting, post-processing, and photo metadata management.
Ethics & Safeguarding: Strong commitment to informed consent, child protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and dignity in humanitarian communications.
