Job Description
The selected candidate will be reporting to the Nutrition Supervisor, MSF Dagahaley Project.
Main purpose: Working under the guidance and supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutritionists will be directly responsible for the implementation of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) program, nutrition surveillance, hospital feeding, nutrition education & counselling and promotion of maternal infant and young child nutrition in the camp.
Missions:
Implement and supervise the inpatient and outpatient therapeutic feeding of severely malnourished under-fives while following the stipulated MSF protocols and Guidelines.
Develop key messages in nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
Supervise Auxiliary nurses / Nutrition assistants working towards the achievement of nutrition result areas in your specific working stations.
Offer nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical conditions including Comprehensive Care Clinic clients.
Plan and conduct the annual health and nutrition surveys together with other stakeholders in the camp.
Plan and conduct mass MUAC screening of the under-fives on a quarterly basis in collaboration with the Community Health Promoters.
Work closely with other nutrition-related programs such as HIV/AIDS, Environmental Health, Clinical Services and Community Health Program to improve the nutrition situation in the camp.
Implement MSF family MUAC strategy in liaison with outreach department to inform early identification of malnutrition cases in the camp.
Implement and supervise the supplementary feeding of the moderately malnourished under-fives, pregnant/lactating mothers, individuals with medical conditions (HIV/AIDS and TB).
Ensure the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) activities are implemented successfully.
Implement comprehensive maternal infant and young child nutrition program (MIYCN) with strong Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and Baby Friendly Community initiative (BFCI) approaches in conjunction with community health promoters in outreach department.
Supervise and monitor the hospital inpatients diet and hospital menus, including the special diets for medical cases like diabetes, TB, HIV/AIDS, Hypertension among others.
Implement MSF nutrition management of non-communicable disease strategy including lifelong diet modification for improved health outcomes.
Train and mentor, the nutrition program staff, and the integrated community health promoters and community health volunteers / workers through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher training and on the job trainings.
Plan and conduct trainings on Growth Monitoring Promotion (GMP), IMAM and MIYCN to other mainstream health professionals.
Compile and submit donor and MSF Nutrition Program weekly, biweekly, and monthly reports of all the activities implemented, as well prepare food requisitions.
Coordinate Nutrition meetings with MSF and participate in Project monitoring, Review and Evaluation.
Represent MSF in Nutrition Coordination meetings with Implementing partners and other Nutrition /Health related forums.
Liaise with Supply Chain Department in logistical Program Supplies procurement and Monitoring Supply control.
Stock monitoring of various commodities on a daily and weekly basis.
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Essential Education: Bachelor’s degree in food, Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized University. Being a registered nutritionist or dietitian with KNDI (The Kenya Nutritionist and Dietitian institute).
Essential Experience:
Proven working experience of at least two years in community nutrition and its implementation
Experience in maternal infant and young nutrition with strong BFHI & BFCI approaches. Experience in nutrition surveys and assessments.
Desirable Experience in Nutrition in NCDS, HIV/AIDS/TB and previous experience in a camp setting
Languages: Proficiency in English and Kiswahili. Somali language is desirable
Good communication, interpersonal skills, strong report writing and teamwork
Duration: 12 months fixed term contract (with 3 months’ probation period) renewable based on performance
Start Date: As soon as possible
